5 Apartment Decorating Tips

This may or may not come as a surprise for some of you, but one thing that I’m passionate about is interior design! I truly believe that everyone deserves to live a beautiful life, and part of the reason that I started this blog is to offer tips & tricks for creative living.

While I’ve always admired interior design, my full-time job actually solidify this passion. For the past two years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the most well-known home brands, publishers, and interior designers in the country. For me, this experience was a real-world interior design crash course in art/design school.

Doing that, in addition to trying things out, helped me learn a lot along the way. Here are my Top 5 Decorating Tips:

Create a Budget

While this is never easy, my advice is to create a budget and stick to it. A budget will help you prioritize what I like to call your big ticket items, which are investment pieces, versus the little ticket items, which are the items do not require a major investment.

Exercise Patience

Be patient, don’t rush, and shop piece by piece. This is how you ensure that you create a home that you absolutely love. The goal here is to collect timeless items for your space that you won’t want to replace immediately. Remember that Rome was not built in a day!

Mark Your Calendars

Mark your calendar, create a google notification, set-up a meeting invite. Do whatever you need to do to keep the annual sales for your favorite stores on your radar!

Consider Floor Samples

Do not be afraid to purchase floor samples. Just carefully assess the condition of the item and decide if it is worth it, since in most cases it will be FINAL SALE. I typically steer clear from final sale items when shopping, but will occasionally bend the rules for the good piece of furniture.

Add Plants

In the home plants are ALWAYS, and I repeat always, a good idea! The best part is a green thumb isn’t necessary to have them. In this photo, I mixed real and faux plants to pull the look together. Adding plants is one of the easiest ways to add a pop of color to your living space.

That’s all folks! These are my 5 Apartment Decorating Tips. Remember to keep the process fun, because it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Best wishes with decorating your space, and be sure to let me know how it turns out. I’d love to hear from you!
