For those of you that know me, I am a huge brunch enthusiast, to the point that when asked what’s my favorite meal of the day, brunch is initial answer [Cue in Steve Harvey saying “Survey Says”]! There is just something about it that just gives me so much joy. Chicago has endless options to the point where you honestly don’t have to go to any restaurant twice, but after living here for a while I’ve found a few good gems that keep me coming back for more. Without further adieu, here is my round-up for 5 Must Have Brunches in Chicago:

Britt’s Pick: Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas + Any of their daily specials paired with the Daily Mimosa Flight

One of my girlfriends and I discovered Flo in pursuit of a spot for one of our quarterly catch-up, little did I know this would become one of my favorite go-to spots in Chicago. Flo is known for their fresh take on authentic Mexican cuisine that they serve in a laid back environment.  It’s situated in the cozy Noble Square neighborhood amongst a number of extremely cute local small businesses, and somewhere that I make sure nearly all of my visitors experience at least once, because it’s that good!

Bad Hunter

Britt’s Pick: Chicken Fried Hen-of-the-woods Mushrooms or Bad Hunter Veggie Burger paired with the Spicy Carrot Cooler

Bad Hunter is one of the best and most innovative veggie-forward restaurants in the city! Located right in the heart of the West Loop; I admire its creative take on vegetables, beautiful ambiance, fun vibes (the music is SO good y’all). It’s been a wonderful option to have in the city as I’ve been working be more mindful of my relationship with food, adopting cleaner eating habits and increase my veggie intake. For those of you that my be wondering, veggies are not the only items on the menu, you can certainly protein options on the menu as well. At Bad Hunter their goal is to create a joyful experience by presenting the highest quality food + drink in a comfortable, convivial setting and from my experiences they have never fallen short of delivering just that.

Britt’s Pick: Fried Bologna Sandwich, Chicken and Waffles, Cobb Salad, or Anson Grits paired with the Roister Mimosa

Where my foodies at? Roister is absolutely where you want to be; Roister is known as the Alinea Group’s casual restaurant with New American fare in Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood. Food critics have described Roister as soulful, indulgent, nostalgic food that’s superbly executed…I would say that it’s all of those things and SO much more!  Fun Fact: If you sit at the bar, you can watch the food being prepared from scratch by each of the chefs. Another Fun Fact: My goal is to try every item on their brunch menu, because the food is just that good. As I’m sure you can imagine given Roister’s amazing reputation here in Chicago, their entire cocktail menu is top notch! I like to ease my way in

Britt’s Pick: Benedict Flight with Smoked Chicken, Pulled Pork & Prime Brisket and Fried Green Tomato’s

Located in a white house that sits pretty in the Gold Coast neighborhood, Chicago q is not your ordinary barbecue joint. Pitmaster Art Smith (best known for being a personal chef to Oprah Winfrey) created a barbecue experience like none other by using the highest quality meats seasoned with house-made rubs while served in a Savannah-style dining room that boasts of Southern charm and comfort. Besides the really great food and unsung hero of the meal are the homemade BBQ chips and sweet pickles served to all customers as a light bite before the meal.

Southport Grocery & Café

Britt’s Pick: Grilled Coffee Cake and The Southern Omelet

Of this entire list, I can honestly admit that I’ve eaten at Southport Grocery & Café the most partly due to proximity, but mostly because it’s just THAT GOOD! The grocery store has locally sourced artisan foods, and everything on the café menu is made daily from scratch and tastes incredible. The best part about The Southern Omelet is that it comes with a biscuit & one of their award-winning seasonal preserves along with their red potato mash giving you all of my favorite things on the menu in one meal. Fun Fact: Once a month Southport Grocery & Café offers a Secret Super, and it’s on my bucket list to attend one!
