Tips For Finding Work Life Happiness Balance

Written by Melissa Kolb, founder of Fit Fearless Happy

As many of you may know, in addition to blogging I have a full-time job. With that, it can be challenging to find a healthy work/life balance – there’s a constant struggle of wanting to be a high-performing employee, but also wanting to maintain fulfilling life outside of work. I must admit that in the past I’ve had experiences that made me question if both could truly co-exist.

Earlier this summer, I learned this organization called Fit Fearless Happy whose mission is to help empower millennial women to take control of their lives and live life fearlessly in the pursuit of their passion. They believe that everyone should be living a life you’re passionate about, and if you’re not, their mission is to show you how you can.

This is powerful y’all, which is why I am really looking forward to attending their Dare To Be Fearless event here in Chicago on August 26th, 2017, and I asked Melissa to create a guest post about finding balance. Passing the baton to Melissa now.

Hi Everyone! My name is Melissa Kolb and I am the founder of Fit Fearless Happy. I believe that success is only found when you have balance in all areas of your life: physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. I think it’s too easy in today’s day and age to lose ourselves in the pursuit of one sole thing…whether that’s earning more money, or working yourself to the bone toward that promotion..whatever it is, even if you achieve it, if you’ve sacrificed the satisfaction of all other areas of your life in order to get it, then even if you reach it, you will still find unhappiness. But this time, it will be in a different area that you’ve been neglecting previous

It turns into a vicious cycle, and I know this from experience. I sacrificed everything for a job that I thought was my dream job: moved across the country, was never living in the same place for more than a week, and was working 14+ hour days. I kept doing it though, even though I was completely drained. Why? Because I was working for my “dream”.

Here’s the catch: I ended up getting let go from that job, and that led me to create Fit Fearless Happy. Sometimes the pressure can just be too much, and only when you take the time to pour into every area of your life, rather than just one, will you start to find a holistic true happiness within yourself, rather than outside recognition or praise. To me, that is the true definition of success.

Here’s my top tips for starting to create that work/life/happiness balance and finding true success in your life:

Put time in your schedule for self care, and actually DO IT. Find something you love, whether it be a hobby, reading, journaling, yoga, photography…whatever it is that you truly lose track of time doing and absolutely can’t stop smiling while you’re doing it. Schedule that into your calendar. No, it might not get you the promotion at work, but it WILL help you in living a more fulfilling, less stressed life. Seriously, it’s a game changer. Try it for a week and feel the difference.

Your health is important. I know it can be easy when you’re busy building your business, or working full time, to put it on the back burner because it isn’t “necessary” for building your biz or advancing in your career, but I’ve personally found that I am more creative, more productive, and overall happier when I allow myself to take that “me time” and get my sweat on.

Realize that you are worth investing in. This one took me awhile to get through my head, but once it did, it truly opens up a world of possibilities. As women, it’s time we stop tearing ourselves down in the mirror, or when we’re trying to sleep at night and tossing and turning wondering why things aren’t where we expected them to be. Be kinder to yourself. When you see yourself in a mirror, give yourself a compliment. Take yourself out for coffee. Watch the sunset. Find 10 things every single day that you LOVE about yourself. It may sound woo-woo, but it will transform your thinking, and it will begin to transform every other area of your life too.

I hope these tips help you begin to create a wave of change in your life. It’s truly never too late, or too early, to start living a life you love.
