I can’t remember the last time that I purchased a pair of wide-leg jeans. But if I had to recall, I’m pretty sure that it was in high school, because my close friend worked job at the local Gap and I asked him to get them for me.

As a skinny jeans loyalist, I was super apprehensive to purchase a pair of wide-leg jeans. It felt like such a new and unfamiliar territory. You won’t believe how many questions that I asked the Madewell Sales Associates, who were so patient and kind, regarding this particular style. They explained that their stylist had just left for the evening and they wish that I could’ve chatted with her to help me with my decision, because she is such an advocate for the wide-leg jean.

Trying to take advantage of the final day of the Extra 40% off sale, I decided to snag them and just see how I felt. To my surprise, I fell in love with them. I love the high waist, the frayed edges, and the fact that they are true black.

For this look, I paired these wide-leg crops with a turtle neck (a Zara sale find), a faux leather jacket (another Zara sale find that was featured in my recent Youtube video), and strappy heels.

One general rule of thumb that I like to follow when wearing a statement pieces is to keep everything else pretty simple, this makes the statement piece the focal point of your look. Finally, the faux leather jacket added just the pop of color that this look needed. As I’m trying to incorporate more color into my wardrobe, this jacket choice was a step in the right direction.
