Overalls

Public Service Announcement: Women with curves, you too can where overalls!

As a child, I loved overalls. My favorite were this satin cobalt blue pair from Gap Kids, and you couldn’t tell me that they weren’t the coolest things on the planet. When I think about it now, I’m pretty sure if Bruno Mar’s song 24 Karat Magic existed back then that it would’ve played every time I wore my overalls…”They ain’t ready for me, uh!”

In adulthood, it became nearly impossible to wear them because of my curvy physique. Let’s just say when trying them on in the dressing room the struggle was very real. I remember so many failed attempts, it was honestly like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole…and we all know that never works out.

I stumbled across them again during a visit to Madewell.  Whether you frequent Madewell or have only visited once, you will notice that overalls are a staple classic for the brand. Personally being surrounded by so many captivating images of people wearing overalls and perfectly layered mannequins, I felt compelled to try them on. It also helped that I had tried their denim in the past and knew that they offered a variety of fits as well as styles to compliment all body types.

Here was my moment of truth…and…the overalls actually fit! Not only did they fit my body, but they looked good and felt comfortable. Just like that, my days of unflattering overalls were behind me. Since, I’ve purchased a second pair, because I loved them so much that I wanted to have a pair for Spring/Summer and another for Fall/Winter. Honestly, the ones that I am wearing here are my Spring/Summer pair, but I chose to wear them because they complimented my bright oversized sweater better to achieve this carefree 60’s-inspired look.
